Ok, sure it’s been a long time and yeah, I still need to fix something in the RDF links but I am here and will post some more stuff shortly. Of course the primary reason for building amps is to play and that’s what I’ve been doing. Before too long I will go into some [...]

Debugging the Medalist – Mistakes Were Made
April 7th, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized
As I try to figure out what is wrong without blowing more 6BQ5′s to do it, I have to acknowledge that I rushed a couple of things in my excitement. I guess I’ll never really be a radio man. Whether or not those mistakes caused the failure is not likely to be known. However, those [...]

Debugging the Medalist – Scoping the Power Supply
March 27th, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Last time, we took some DMM measurements of the power section. Some odd numbers and all made me think about it and I even called a physicist friend to ensure that I understood the readings I was getting. He suggested I had better check the DMM. I switched to another one, but I also swapped [...]

Now on the bench : A 67 GA-5T ‘Medalist’ Skylark
March 26th, 2011 · No Comments · Amp Repair, ebay, Uncategorized
Preamble When last we met I claimed, without evidence, that I was in possession of an authentic, original schematic for a 67 GA-5T Skylark. How could I guarantee such a thing? I took the schematic out of a 67 myself! I just bought one on ebay after all the doings with Patrick and trying to [...]

Ok.. Patrick has some numbers and some pictures, so lets go into it a little bit. Firstly, he has sketched the circuit and confirmed that it is similar to the schematic he provided. [Correction: Rob put Newcomb knobs on another build, thanks for heads up Rob]. Needless to say, I have offered him money if he has more of them. Thanks [...]

Skylark Rebuild : Last things first
December 6th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Amp mods, Skylark Rebuid, Uncategorized
This is what the old girl looks like right now : Now it’s not going to matter one bit if I don’t do anything about the looks, but it would be nice to get her cleaned up. There is no way I am going to be able to clean around the silk-screened lettering or lines. [...]

JSchem

Ah.. large sigh of relief. I have found JSchem. This is a free schematic capture application. So far the only downside is that it doesn’t produce a netlist. This will greatly simplify scratching out descriptions for the blog. Put your search engine on it.
